QUESTIONS
Exploring energy healing for the first time can bring up lots of questions — and that’s perfectly natural. Every healing journey begins with curiosity, so I’ve gathered the questions I hear most often to help you feel at ease and give you a deeper understanding of Reiki and what to expect from a session.
HOW DOES REIKI WORK?
Reiki is a Japanese healing practice that works by channeling universal life energy through the hands of a trained practitioner. When someone is attuned to Reiki by a Reiki Master, they are opened to this flow of energy in a very specific way. This attunement allows Reiki energy to pass through the practitioner’s hands and into the client’s energy field and body.
During a session, I act as a channel — the energy doesn’t come from me, but rather flows through me. Once the Reiki enters the body, it naturally moves to where it’s needed most, supporting balance, release, and healing. Together, we can also set intentions to direct the energy toward specific areas — whether physical, emotional, or spiritual.
It’s important to know that while there are many types of energy work, Reiki is unique because of this attunement process. Without attunement, a person cannot practice Reiki on themselves or others. This is what makes Reiki such a special and trusted modality — it is passed down through a lineage of Reiki Masters, keeping its integrity and power intact.
IS REIKI SAFE?
Absolutely! Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive, and completely safe form of healing that anyone can receive — children, adults, seniors, and even pets. Because it works with your natural energy, there are no harmful side effects, and it can be used alongside medical treatments or other therapies to support recovery and overall wellbeing. Reiki simply flows where it’s needed most, making it a safe and supportive practice for all ages and stages of life.
It’s also important to know that as Reiki clears the chakras and releases emotional blockages, old feelings or patterns may sometimes rise to the surface. This is part of the healing process — often called “shadow work” — and it gives you the opportunity to face, process, and release what no longer serves you. In this way, Reiki not only soothes and restores but also supports deep, lasting transformation.
WHAT IS A SESSION LIKE?
Every Reiki session is a little different, because the energy flows to exactly where it’s needed most. Many people experience deep relaxation, feelings of peace, warmth, and security, while others notice gentle sensations like heat, tingling, or vibration. Some may even see colors, recall memories, or experience an emotional release through laughter or tears — all of which are natural ways the body and spirit cleanse and realign.
It’s also completely normal to feel very little during the session — Reiki is still working, whether you sense it or not. In my sessions, we begin with a brief conversation to set intentions, followed by a tailored healing experience that may include meditation, a full-body Reiki energy scan, chakra balancing, aromatherapy, crystals, or smudging. All you need to do is lay back, relax, and allow the energy to flow.
DOES DISTANCE REIKI WORK?
Yes — absolutely. One of the most beautiful aspects of Reiki is that it goes beyond time and space. Reiki energy knows no boundaries, which means you can receive its benefits no matter where you are in the world.
As a certified practitioner, I am trained and attuned to perform distance Reiki using sacred symbols that allow the energy to be sent across space. In practice, I act as a channel, directing Reiki to you with intention. Once received, the energy flows into your body and energy field, moving to where it is needed most — whether that’s physical, emotional, or spiritual.
During a distance session, we connect over Zoom to set intentions and create a supportive space, just like in person. All you need is a quiet place where you can relax without distraction. Many clients are amazed to discover that distance Reiki feels just as powerful, if not more, than receiving it in person.
